Agnes sits in one corner of the living room, tears in her eyes. Everyone left after discussing Clara’s wedding—at which Agnes declared her intention not to attend, despite her desire to do so—and she now regrets what she said.

Agnes was 75 years old when her beloved husband, Edward, passed away. Soon after, her health began to deteriorate, and she moved to New York City to live with her son’s family. At first, they were very loving and caring, but when Agnes was diagnosed with dementia, things began to change.
She could hear her son Timothy and his wife Linda arguing almost every day about whether she should be transferred to a nursing home or how expensive the treatment would be if her health deteriorated further. But Agnes swallowed all her pain and wanted to stay there because she adored her granddaughter.
After Edward left for his heavenly home, Agnes had only one wish: she wanted to see her granddaughter married before God decided to send her to Edward. So she didn’t receive a cent of the money she had saved for years for her granddaughter.
She was overjoyed when she finally learned that Clara was getting married. So she offered her all her money to help with the wedding preparations. However, things didn’t go as planned.

“But darling, what am I going to do with this money at my age?” Agnes asks in a frail voice. “You know perfectly well that my health is deteriorating. I don’t even know how much longer I’ll live. Please, let me do it.”
“She’s right, darling,” Linda chimes in, her eyes sparkling at Agnes’s wealth. “After all, she only has one granddaughter. I don’t mind, Mrs. Arnold. In fact, you made the right decision.”

“See, even your wife agrees with me, Tim,” Agnes remarked. “I’ll give you my savings account details. Please withdraw the money and use it, okay?”
“But Mom. I don’t think so…” Timothy hesitates to accept Agnes’s money, but when she insists, he finally gives in.
Meanwhile, Clara was anything but impressed with her grandmother.
“She’s not coming. How can you even think of inviting Grandma to the wedding? Ugh, I’m done with that sick old witch!” Clara shouted to her parents one evening.
“But, darling,” her mother protests, “she paid for your wedding.”
“Come on, Mom! Just because she paid doesn’t mean we have to invite her. Don’t you remember what the doctors said? Her dementia is getting worse. If that old hag shows up at the wedding, I swear I’ll cancel the whole thing! I’m not letting her ruin my special day!”
“Enough!” exclaims his father. “She’s your grandmother. At least show some decency!”
“I don’t care, Dad! I’m serious. That woman isn’t coming. It’s my wedding, and I’m taking her name off the guest list right now!”

At that point, the wedding was only two weeks away. Agnes was excited, but her heart sank when she heard her granddaughter talk about removing her name from the wedding guest list.
Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated over time, and when Timothy took her to the doctor one day, he was told that if he didn’t take care of her, her condition would get even worse.
When Clara and Linda learn of this, they are furious and suggest that Agnes be placed in a nursing home. “We don’t have time to take care of her, and I don’t want to ruin my only daughter’s wedding because of her health problems,” Linda says.

Excited to see her granddaughter, Agnes dressed in a pastel dress and matching beret. However, when she arrived at the wedding, a shout from Clara’s room stopped her in her tracks. The elderly woman realized that Clara and her fiancé were arguing.
“How can you do this to me? How can you cancel the wedding?” She heard Clara scream. Agnes covered her mouth in shock.
“I don’t want to be with someone who doesn’t respect their grandparents, Clara. I can’t believe you didn’t invite your grandmother because you were embarrassed by her illness.”
“Yeah, so what? What’s the problem? I didn’t want a burden like her attending the wedding.”
“Wow! Clara, we’re all going to get old at some point. Is that how you’d like to be treated? What about my parents? They’re already over 60. Are you going to kick them out too?”
“Don’t change the subject, Josh. I’m not calling him!”
“So the wedding is off! Goodbye!”

When Agnes heard Clara’s fiancé call off the wedding, she couldn’t help but break down the door. “Please, darling, don’t do this. Clara adores you.”

“I just wanted to see you, darling. I tried everything to persuade myself not to come, but I really wanted to see you in your wedding dress.”
“Well, I’m sorry, but there’s no wedding here, Mrs. Arnold. You can go home,” Josh said.
“Please, no. I understand Clara’s recklessness, but please don’t call off the wedding. I forgave her long ago, and you will have to do the same.”
“I apologize, Ms. Arnold. I have a lot of respect for you, but I can’t do this,” Josh said emphatically before leaving.
Clara sobbed on the floor as she watched him walk away. “Are you happy now? You completely ruined our wedding. Isn’t that what you wanted?”
“No, darling, I didn’t mean that…” Agnes approached gently to console Clara, but the young woman was so enraged that she threw her grandmother out of the room.

Agnes slowly walks away, surveying her surroundings. The atmosphere is depressing. The guests leave the room murmuring their disappointment, and Timothy and Linda argue again.
