An 80-year-old woman accidentally finds her late mother’s precious pendant in an antique shop. She decides to buy it, but is interrupted by a stranger who offers to pay double the price. She bursts into tears after recognizing who it is.
Samantha, 80, was a regular at the thrift store. She loved buying masterpieces and antique furniture to adorn the small house she lived in alone.
One day she went shopping, assuming it would be an ordinary day at the flea market.
“I’m hoping to find a nice shelf to put under Paul’s photo. The old one is broken,” she muttered.
Paul was her late husband, who died just a year after their marriage in 1963. Since then, Samantha, refusing to move on, chose to live with her memories, and his photo was among the objects she treasured….

“Hello, what can I do for you, Mrs. Drake?” asked the furniture store salesman.
“Well, I want a nice shelf. Not a big one, but something small with elegant cuts and durable wood.”
“Very well! Why don’t you sit down while I bring in some coins?”
“Why do you want to buy my mother’s pendant?” Samantha asked the stranger, who offered to pay double the price for it.
Samantha sat in the store, looking around. A few moments later, the antique store across from the furniture store caught her eye.
“I’ll be back in a moment. I’ll just go take a look at the store across the street for a candlestick,” she said.
“Very well, Mrs. Drake. I’ll have the shelves ready by then.”
Shortly after entering the antique store, Samantha was startled by what she saw.

“Oh my God! This can’t be true. Where did you find this?” she asked, her eyes shining with tears as she pointed to a classic red pendant on the mannequin.
“Hey, Mrs. Drake! You mean this one?” the salesman said, taking the beautiful chain with the pendant off the display.
“Yes, please… can I see her?”
“Sure, here it is… It’s 40 dollars, but I’ll give it to you for 5 dollars less … ” the salesman said, smiling.
Samantha turned the pendant over several times and couldn’t hold back her tears.
“I found it… It belonged to my mother!” she exclaimed, tears streaming endlessly down her face. “Where did you get it from?”
“I don’t know, but my father told me that someone sold it to him several years ago…. It hadn’t been displayed because my father kept it at home. After he died last year, I was clearing out the attic and found it there. So I put it up for sale here.”
Samantha couldn’t believe her eyes. “I’ll buy it!” she said, and just as she was rummaging in her bag for the money, she heard someone come in, followed by a loud voice:
“I’ll pay double its price… Please give it to me… I want it at any cost!”

Samantha jumped. She turned around, stunned to see a woman who looked just like her.
“Oh my God! I can’t believe this! Am I looking in the mirror?” the other lady said.
“Oh, my God! What’s going on? And how come you look exactly like me?” Samantha cried.
The two women stared at each other for a long time, unable to comprehend their uncanny resemblance.
“What’s your name? I’m Samantha… And you?”
“I’m Doris!”
“And why do you want to buy my mother’s pendant?”
“Your mother’s pendant?”
“Yes, this is my mother Dorothy’s pendant… We became very poor after my father left my mother, so she sold everything we had to make ends meet, and this pendant was one of the family heirlooms she sold. She sold it to a man, but I don’t know how it got here.”
“So that makes you my sister?!” Doris cried, hugging a confused Samantha, who didn’t understand what was going on.

“Sister??? What do you mean?” she exclaimed, pushing Doris away for an explanation.
“Let me show you,” replied Doris, pulling out a torn old photograph of Dorothy wearing the pendant with a little girl on her lap.
“Holy shit! This is amazing! This is my mom, and this is me with her,” Samantha exclaimed.
“No, it’s not you… it’s me! We’re twins!” Doris replied.
“What? How is this possible? Oh my God… I didn’t know I had a sister!” Samantha cried.
It turned out that Doris was indeed Samantha’s twin. Their parents, Dorothy and Michael, hit a rough patch in their marriage and divorced when Samantha and Doris were only one year old. They separated, each taking a child to raise independently.
Samantha was raised by Dorothy, while Doris was raised by her father. They were separated in childhood and never had the opportunity to see each other again.
“…And when my grandmother died 40 years ago, she revealed the secret when I asked her for the other half of that torn photo,” Doris says.
“Dad had passed away a year before her, so I couldn’t confront him. He never left anything else of you that could help me find you. I lost my husband several years ago and I don’t have any children. I kept looking for you but to no avail…. I think it was God’s will that we met like this today, thanks to Mom’s pendant!”

“I came here to buy a candlestick, and now I’m baffled!” said Samantha, sobbing like a child in Doris’s arms. “You can have the pendant! I saw Mom wearing it, but you didn’t even get a chance to be with her. It should be yours by now!”
Doris was touched and moved to tears. Samantha bought the pendant and placed it around Doris’s neck.
“You remind me of our mother! I’m happy to meet you. Let’s go home!” she said. So they left the store, holding each other!
