My sister-in-law demanded I give her my baby as a birthday present, but she got exactly what she deserved – Story of the day

My sister-in-law always felt entitled to whatever she wanted, but nothing prepared me for her most outrageous request yet: she wanted me to have a baby just so she could keep it as a gift. When she refused to take no for an answer, I decided to teach her a lesson she would never forget.

Think you have crazy parents? Let me tell you about mine and maybe you’ll change your mind.

Harry and I were married for seven years, together for almost fifteen, and we had two wonderful children, Maya and Luke.

Our little family meant everything to me, but when it came to our extended family, things weren’t so simple.

I realized something was wrong with my stepmother, Charlotte, and my sister-in-law, Candice, the first day I met them.

I told myself it was just nervousness, that I was overdoing it. I had no idea then the problems they would bring into my life.

Before our wedding, Candice proved how self-centered she was. She threw a huge tantrum because I had the audacity to choose someone else as my maid of honor.

Even worse, she claimed my dress was prettier than hers. As if my wedding was supposed to revolve around her!

She almost ruined the whole day, but luckily Harry’s grandmother, Grace, stepped in.

Grace was the only truly kind soul in this family, besides my husband. Unfortunately, she lived too far away to be able to save us often.

But just before Candice’s thirtieth birthday, something happened that made me question reality itself.

Candice rarely visited us, and when she did, she kept her distance from the children, always complaining that they were “too noisy” or “gave her headaches.”

But that day was different. She spent hours playing with Maya, and something about it made me shiver. It turned out I had every reason to be worried.

During dinner, Candice kept glancing at Harry and me. I knew she wanted attention. But I didn’t know why.

“I have an announcement to make!” Her voice echoed through the dining room. “I’m going to be a mom!” she called out.

Harry choked on his food. He coughed and grabbed his water. I froze, my fork halfway to my mouth.

“What?” I asked.

Harry wiped his mouth. “Who… is the father?” His eyebrows furrowed. “You’re not dating anyone.”

He was right. The last boyfriend, she had run away from after he yelled at him because he hadn’t bought her an expensive handbag.

Candice waves her hand. “Actually, that’s why I came today.” She straightens in her chair. “My daughter’s parents will be you two.”

My stomach twisted. “What?!”

She sighed as if I were the one who was crazy. “I’m almost thirty and I don’t have a husband.” She smiled. “The perfect birthday present would be a daughter.”

I opened my mouth, then closed it. My brain was having trouble processing his words.

Harry rubbed his temples. “Do you want Stephanie to be your surrogate mother?”

Candice shook her head. “No, I want you to have a baby for me.”

I placed my hands on the table. “So this would be our child, and you want us to give it to you?”

“Not just give it… give it to me for my birthday. What’s the problem?” Her tone was light, casual, as if she were asking for a sweater.

I stared at her. “Don’t you really see what the problem is?” My voice rose. “Harry and I won’t have any more children. I’m not having a baby just to give it to you.”

Candice scoffed. “Stephanie, you’ve always been so selfish.”

Harry’s chair scraped against the floor as he sat up. “No, Candice. Stephanie’s right. We won’t do that.”

“But why? You already have two! What’s the problem with having one more?” His voice turned into a high-pitched whine.

I clench my fists. “I’m not an incubator! A child is not an object! A child is a person!”

“You just don’t want me to be happy! You want to be the only one to have children!” Candice cried.

Harry slammed his hand on the table. “That’s enough! Leave. Now.”

Candice’s face turned red. She stood up, shaking with anger. “I’m going to talk to Mom about this!” She walked to the door, opened it, and slammed it behind her.

I exhaled. “How could she make that up?”

Harry shakes his head. “She’s completely lost it.”

Candice was silent for a moment. I hoped that meant she’d finally given up. I should have known.

One afternoon, Candice showed up at our house with Charlotte by her side.

Candice’s arms were overflowing with shopping bags from baby stores. At first, I thought she’d decided to be a good aunt and bring gifts for Maya and Luke. But the smug look on her face told me otherwise.

Charlotte walked in without waiting for an invitation. She sat down on the sofa and beckoned Harry and me to join her. Candice was standing nearby, smiling.

“Candice told me you agreed to give her a baby,” Charlotte said.

“What? No, we told him we weren’t going to do that,” I replied.

“Why not?” asks Charlotte.

“Because it’s insane,” Harry replied.

“Is it really that difficult? Stephanie, as a woman, you should know that the older you get, the harder it is to have children. Candice is almost thirty already,” Charlotte argues.

“I’m not going to give my child to your daughter, who has no idea what it means to be a parent,” I said firmly.

“That’s not true! I already bought everything!” Candice announced, pulling baby clothes and dresses out of her bags.

“You do realize that a baby isn’t a doll you can just dress up, right? Babies cry, scream, spit up, and do lots of nasty things,” Harry pointed out.

“My daughter won’t be like that. She’ll be like your Maya—I’ve never seen Maya cry,” Candice said confidently.

“That’s because you never spent enough time with her,” I retorted.

“Then I’ll bring my daughter to you when she cries,” Candice said.

“Babies cry day and night. Are you planning on bringing him to me every time?” I asked.

“Yes. What’s the problem?” Candice asks, genuinely confused.

Harry buried his face in his hands. “That’s impossible. Candice, you ’re not ready to be a mother . And asking someone to have a child for you is completely crazy,” he said.

“But you’re my brother!” Candice cries.

While they were arguing, I noticed Charlotte was missing. I went looking for her and found her in our bedroom—cutting holes in our condoms.

“What are you doing?!” I shouted.

“I make everyone’s life easier,” she said calmly.

“Are you out of your mind?!” I screamed.

“Listen, it wouldn’t be hard for you to have another baby, but it’s hard for Candice. So I just decided to help you out a little,” she said.

“Help?!” I yelled. “You’re interfering in our personal lives !”

“Not everyone is as lucky as you are to have a husband like my son. You should understand that,” Charlotte replied.

“You’re treating your son and me like an incubator! Why can’t Candice use a sperm donor?!” I snapped.

“Donors are random people. But you and Harry already have two healthy children, so Candice would be sure her baby would be fine,” Charlotte said.

“That would be our child! Ours! ” I shouted.

“But you would have it for Candice, so it would be her child,” Charlotte argued.

“Do you really think I would give my child to someone who believes you can choose a baby’s sex? Or that babies don’t cry?” I asked.

“I’ll help him,” Charlotte said.

“That makes…” that makes it even worse , I wanted to say, but I stopped myself.

An idea formed in my mind – a way to teach Candice and Charlotte a lesson and show everyone how crazy they are.

“You know what? If you want to help me, I’m all for it,” I said.

Charlotte is beaming. “Finally! Why didn’t you say it earlier?” she says, before going to announce the “good news” to Candice.

As soon as they left, Harry turned to me, shocked. “Are you really okay with this?” he asked.

“I have a plan,” I replied.

For the nine months leading up to Candice’s birthday, I played my part well.

I smiled, touched my belly often, and acted like the happiest pregnant woman.

Every time Candice called me, I assured her that everything was going well. I even let her ramble on about nursery themes and baby names.

It was exhausting. Continuing to act was exhausting, but I had to see it through.

When the time came, I announced that I would be giving birth in another city. Candice pouted but accepted my reasoning—I told her the “gift” was to remain a surprise until her birthday. After all, it was a gift, wasn’t it?

On the big day, the whole family gathered for the reveal. Even Grace had traveled to be there.

Candice had told everyone about her “big surprise,” preparing for the moment as if she had won the lottery.

Harry and I walked in when everyone was seated. I was holding a baby carrier, wrapped in a giant bow, and carefully rocking it. Candice jumped, clasping her hands in front of her.

“Let me see it!” she squeaked, trying to peek inside.

“Not yet,” I said. “Wait for the big moment.”

Finally, Candice stood up, practically beaming with excitement. “I have a very special announcement to make!” she declared. “Harry and Stephanie gave me the most incredible birthday present—a baby!” Gasps filled the room. Eyes focused on us.

Candice turned around, arms outstretched. “Okay, give it to me now!” I smiled and placed the baby carrier in her hands.

Candice snatched the bow. She reached her trembling hands inside the carrier. Her eyes shone with excitement. Then her face contorted in horror.

“WHAT IS THIS?” she cried, pulling out a doll.

The room fell silent. All eyes were on her. Harry and I burst out laughing.

“The only baby you can take care of,” I said, smiling.

Candice’s chest rose and fell rapidly. Her fingers dug into the doll’s plastic limbs. She looked at me with pure rage.

“But you were pregnant!” she shouted. “I saw your belly!”

“Fake bellies,” I shrugged. “I left town to ‘give birth’ just to sell the illusion.”

Candice let out a harsh sob. Charlotte jumped and stood up from her seat.

“Heartless witch!” Charlotte screams.

“And who exactly is heartless?” I fumed. “The people who refused to give up their child? Or the ones who waited for a baby as if it were a wrapped gift?”

Candice hugged the doll to her chest. Tears streamed down her face.

“But… but I’ve already bought so many dresses!” she whined. “Who am I supposed to dress now?”

“The doll works perfectly,” Harry said, still chuckling.

Candice’s hands were shaking as she looked at the toy. Her whole body was trembling.

I then noticed Grace watching her intently. Her wrinkled hands rested on her knees. Her piercing eyes flicked from Candice to Charlotte.

“Can someone explain to me what’s going on here?” she asks, her voice firm.

I turned to her. “Candice came to us a year ago demanding we give her a baby for her birthday.”

Grace’s face twisted in confusion. “You mean… as a surrogate mother? Does she have any health issues?”

“No,” said Harry. “Our baby.”

Grace’s frown deepened.

“Candice is perfectly healthy,” I added. “It’s just that she doesn’t have a husband and she thought we should give her a child.”

Grace’s face turned red with fury. She stood up from her seat and pointed a trembling finger at Candice and Charlotte.

“Are you both out of your mind?!” she roared.

Candice jumps. “What is it? What’s wrong with that?” she stammers.

“You’re just like your mother, Candice! I warned my son not to marry you, Charlotte, but he didn’t listen! And this is the result!” Grace spits.

“Grandma, how can you say that?!” Candice cried.

“I’m telling the truth!” Grace snapped. She took another deep breath, then stared at them both with a look of disgust.

“I’m removing you both from my will.”

The room fell silent. Grace’s possessions were worth a lot of money. Everyone knew it. Candice and Charlotte froze in shock.

“Are you serious?” Charlotte whispers, her voice unsteady.

“Absolutely,” Grace said coldly. “I won’t let fools like you have any control over my wealth.”

A deep, satisfied sense of justice washed over me. I watched them take in the situation.

“But…” Candice began.

Grace raised her hand. “That’s enough. We’re leaving. I want to see my great-grandchildren—the real ones.” She turned to Harry and me. “Let’s go.”

Harry and I didn’t hesitate. We stood up and walked out, hand in hand. Behind us, Candice was sobbing hysterically.

Charlotte screamed in frustration. But we didn’t care. They got exactly what they deserved.
