Son Visits Mother After Years, Sees Her Home Destroyed – Story of the Day

Adam didn’t visit his mother for years, neglecting her after she began to have a full life of her own. One day, he had to go get some documents from her house, but he found it destroyed and abandoned.

Diana Evans raised her son Adam alone. Despite her struggles, she worked very hard to feed him and pay for his education. But after graduating from high school, he decided to attend a university across the country.

Although Diana is sad, she is happy to send Adam to study and live in New York while she remains in California. They stay in touch during his first years there, and he calls his mother whenever he has time.

However, during Adam’s college years, Diana was never able to visit her son in New York. They only communicated by phone, and although the phone calls began to decrease over time, Diana still greatly appreciated them.

When Adam was about to graduate from college, he called his mother to invite her over. “Hey, Mom!” he said into the phone.

“Hi Adam, it’s great to hear from you! How are you doing?” she said enthusiastically.

“I’m fine, Mom! I’m calling because I’m finally graduating in two weeks. Will you be able to come?” he asked.

Diana was so proud when she heard this. She would have done anything to see her precious son walk to graduation. “Of course, Adam. I’ll be there. I wouldn’t want to miss it! I’m so proud of you!” She smiled.

After ending the call, Diana began researching flights to New York. She was surprised to see how expensive the flights were, and she immediately realized she didn’t have enough money to buy a round-trip ticket and a special graduation gift for Adam.

In fact, she decided to take on an extra job as a babysitter to earn money. She worked long hours babysitting to earn her money faster. When she had enough savings, she bought her ticket and went to the department store to buy Adam a gift.

Diana walked around the store for a few minutes before deciding to buy a watch. She realized that every professional needed a nice watch, and she wanted to give one to her son.

“Please wrap it nicely with a ribbon,” she told the saleswoman. “It’s a graduation gift for my son. He’s going to graduate from a top university in New York!” she exclaimed.

“That’s great! You must be very proud. Congratulations!” said the saleswoman as she wrapped up the watch.

A few days later, Diana traveled to New York. Adam picked her up at the airport, and they traveled together to her campus, where the graduation ceremony was about to begin.

Diana excitedly took out her cell phone and started taking pictures. When it was Adam’s turn to receive his diploma, she couldn’t help but stand up and applaud wildly. “That’s my son!” she exclaimed.

After the ceremony, Adam met Diana and hugged her. “Oh, son, congratulations!” she said as they embraced.

“Thanks, Mom. This is all thanks to you,” he said, smiling. “Let’s go eat a nice dinner now,” he said, walking with his mother toward the university exit.

Adam and Diana ate at a fancy steakhouse in New York City and had a lovely dinner together. At first, Diana was worried about the bill, until Adam told her not to. “I took a part-time job while I was in college, Mom. This is my reward to you. Thank you for taking care of me all these years,” he said, squeezing her hand.

Diana was in tears. She was so grateful that Adam had grown up to be such a nice man. “I’m proud of you, son,” she said. “I bought you something too. It’s not much, but I hope you like it.”

She took out the gift package and handed it to Adam. “You really didn’t need to get me anything, Mom,” he said as he opened it.

When he saw it was a watch, he was surprised. “It’s beautiful, Mom. Thank you,” he said with a big smile on his face. “I’m going to wear it every day to work. That way, I’ll always have you with me.”

That night, the mother and son spent the night talking to each other and taking pictures.

After a few more days in New York, Diana had to fly back to California. “Are you coming home soon, Adam?” she asked, suddenly remembering that she would be alone again.

“I’ll try, Mom. I have a few job interviews lined up, so I’m not sure when I’ll be home. But I promise to call you,” he assured her. With that, Diana nodded contentedly.

Unfortunately, this promise didn’t last long. Adam used to call his mother every other day, but this slowly decreased until the calls finally stopped.

During one of their last calls, Diana showed signs of depression caused by her loneliness. “I’ve lost a lot of weight and I don’t really have an appetite,” she said.

“You should eat, Mom. Go outside, talk to your neighbors, and go for a walk in the park,” Adam said.

For years, Adam checked in on his mother occasionally, but he was busy working on Wall Street and maintaining his relationship with his model girlfriend, whom he rarely called.

One day, he decided to start his own practice in New York. But to do so, he needed documents from California that he couldn’t just ask his mother to mail. So at the last minute, he took a flight home and went to their house without telling his mother. But when he arrived, he wasn’t expecting what he saw.

Their house was in ruins and full of cobwebs. The fences were lying on the ground, and the lawn looked like it hadn’t been mowed in years. He looked inside and saw the house empty except for some ruined furniture.

Adam started calling his mother, but she wasn’t answering, so he went to his next-door neighbor’s house to ask what had happened.

“Hello, Mr. Green,” he said as soon as their longtime neighbor opened the door.

“Adam? Is that you?” he asked. “What are you doing here?”

“It’s me, Mr. Green. Where’s Mom? What happened to our house?” he asked, feeling both guilty and scared.

“Oh, well, remember the storm that hit California a few months ago? Our houses were severely damaged. Your mother didn’t have enough money to repair it, and she said she didn’t want to burden you, so she moved into a nursing home,” Mr. Green explained.

“What? Why don’t I know anything about this?” Adam said, shocked. “Where is the nursing home she’s living in right now?” he asked.

After getting the address, he quickly went there. When he arrived, he saw Diana, frail and in a wheelchair. “Mom,” he said, in tears, as soon as he saw her.

“Adam? What are you doing here?” Diana asked.

“Mom, I’m so sorry I didn’t pay more attention to you. I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me most,” he said, kneeling in front of his mother’s wheelchair. He sobbed, feeling guilty for neglecting his mother for years.

“Adam, don’t be ridiculous. Get up,” she said, trying to help her son up. He shook his head and clung to her knees, and Diana couldn’t stop crying. She thought she would never see Adam again, and seeing him there, in the flesh, begging for forgiveness, both touched and relieved her.

“I’m so sorry, Mom. You’ll never have to be alone again,” he said, shaking his head. “I’ll live with you, and I’ll take care of you,” he promised.

This time, Adam truly kept his promise. He completely renovated their old house and moved his mother out of the nursing home after the work was completed. He also decided to start his business in California instead of New York and asked his girlfriend to move in with them.

Since then, the three of them have lived happily together. The couple took care of Diana and made sure she was happy again. While Adam and his girlfriend worked, Diana helped them around the house by preparing meals and helping with household chores.
