When I became pregnant with our second child, my husband told me that if it wasn’t a male heir, he would throw my daughter and me out. I had to make an exchange, but years later, this terrible act caught up with me.
My husband and I were planning on having another child. “My dream is to be a father of two,” he often said. Our oldest and only daughter was turning seven, so we thought it would be a good time to try for another child so she could enjoy her little brother (or sister?) while they were both children.
After my period was delayed by more than 5 weeks, I decided to make an appointment with my GP, and he told me the news. “Congratulations, Chrissy! You’re pregnant!” and we were both thrilled!
But my husband told me something he’d never told me before. I already had Jessy, and after learning I was pregnant, he told me he couldn’t stand another woman in the house. So if “I don’t give birth to a male heir, I’ll have to leave the house.”
During a routine ultrasound, I was told it was a girl. I didn’t know what to tell my husband, so I lied. When I got home, he asked me, “How did the exam go? What did the doctor say?”

“Aaah…” I replied. “Well, he said it wasn’t clear yet. We’ll find out during labor.” When the day came and we were leaving for the maternity ward, my husband arrived with two suitcases full of belongings.
“What’s that for, John?” I asked. “Did you think I was joking? If you give birth to a girl, you’ll never set foot in my house again!”
God only knows how scared I was. I could barely concentrate on the delivery. There was another woman in the ward with me, and she was due to give birth that day too. I could hear her talking to her husband. “I want to have a little girl,” she said.

“Honey,” her husband looked at her, “it doesn’t matter if it’s a boy or a girl. What matters is that we’re going to be parents!”
I wanted John to be loving like that man. To love his child as he is, regardless of gender. Unfortunately, my reality was different.

The woman gave birth first, and it was a boy. I felt like I had no other options. So I approached one of the nurses and asked to speak privately. I wrote a check for a few thousand dollars and begged her to switch babies!
She was a little hesitant at first, but she saw my desperation and probably felt bad for me, so she said yes.

When she arrived with the little boy in her arms, I thought I had made the right decision. The couple next to me was happy with their little girl, and my husband was happy with our son. And he was truly pleased with the heir.
He spent almost all day playing with Jimmy and when he was a little older, he promised his son he would teach him everything he knew.

But as our son grew older, he began complaining of pain, dizziness, and extreme fatigue. So we decided to take him to see a doctor. We discovered he was sick and needed a blood transfusion. However, the transfusion had to come from a family member.
Our blood wasn’t compatible, and my husband found out he wasn’t the father, so he thought I was cheating on him! He kicked Jessy and me out at the hardest time, and I had no idea what to do.

If I asked my son’s real parents for help, I would be punished. But when the doctor told me he didn’t have much time and that only a blood transfusion could save Jimmy, I couldn’t leave him like that.
I swallowed my pride and went to find Mr. and Mrs. Willard. They agreed to help my son, but I would have to face repercussions. Mrs. Willard got really aggressive and cried, asking me, “How could you do this?!” and threatened me and my family. But Jimmy asked them not to press charges, and they agreed.

Everyone turned their backs on me. My daughter Jessy and my biological daughter, who was raised by the Willards, said I was disgusting.
All these reactions? Of course, they made me feel like a horrible mother. To be honest, I didn’t care at the time. The only thing that mattered to me was saving my son’s life.

My beloved son, Jimmy, was finally released from the hospital. He saw how unhappy I was about the whole situation.
He came to me, took my hand, wiped away my tears, and said, “Mom, I don’t care what anyone says. To me, you’re a wonderful mother. You knew you’d be punished, but you did it anyway!” “I love you, Jimmy! You’re my son, and you’re the best thing that could have ever happened to me!”
Eventually, my daughter Jessy and even my biological daughter, who I later became close to, forgave me.

They saw the love I had for Jimmy, regardless of my past mistakes. I knew I still had a lot of things to fix.
What can we learn from this story?
- The truth always prevails. Chrissy’s intentions were the best, but she couldn’t keep up such a lie any longer. Karma always finds a way to bring the truth to light.
- Stand up for your truth . Because John didn’t want a girl, Chrissy should have stood up for herself and her daughter. A good man will always love his child, regardless of gender.
